Clear The Chaos: A Spring Kitchen Reset

Every day last week I had the kitchen window open. Spring air feels like you are breathing in something new, and it immediately makes things feel fresh. What if we approached the heart of the home the same way- like a breath of fresh air?
Truthfully, a large reason for this series is I am coming out of this winter feeling so very weary. We've had sickness after sickness, with a grand finale of Influenza A making its way through my household as we speak. If i'm going to hasten in a fresh start with spring this year, it has to be gentle. So as I clear the chaos of home, i'm starting with where it matters most in my home- where we share meals and begin and end our day: The Kitchen.
If the kitchen is destroyed by the end of the day, usually it's a sign of life well lived. But when it's not just snacktime dishes and the remnants of a dinner made with love but actual clutter, it affects everything. Kitchen clutter weighs down the tasks fo everyday life, and soon the days can feel more chaotic than cozy.
This week’s theme is Clear the Chaos—and that’s exactly what we’ll do.
The RESET Formula
We’ll use the RESET method as our gentle rhythm for decluttering and resetting each space. Here’s how it works in the kitchen:
R — Reflect on how your kitchen serves you. What’s working? What’s not? Are your morning routines flowing well? Can you easily access your go-to tools, or do you dig through drawers for the peeler again and again?
E — Edit slowly and mindfully. You don’t need to pull everything out at once (I don't have the margin for this type of decluttering, so i'm going slow). Choose one drawer, one cabinet, one surface. Toss the expired, donate what you don’t use, and keep only what supports your everyday life.
S — Set up sustainable systems. Is your coffee station working for you? Do snacks have a home? Can your family find what they need without your help? Systems don’t need to be fancy—just thoughtful. Here are some of my favorite kitchen organization systems that keep me on track.
E — Elevate the space.Wipe surfaces, polish handles, light a candle or switch on a kitchen lamp. This is where nourishment begins—how can you make it feel a little more beautiful?
T — Tend it daily.A 5-minute evening reset can be the difference between a chaotic morning and a calm one. What can you do tonight that will make tomorrow easier?
Let This Be Gentle
You don’t need to transform your kitchen overnight. This is a season of pruning—not pressure. Let this be slow, soulful work. You’re not just decluttering. You’re clearing the way for fresh rhythms, cozy routines, and more ease in the everyday. I'd make the case that new growth is slow, and most of the hard work is done under the surface, before you even see new life sprouting from the ground. It takes time to grow the stalks that can hold the weight of flowers. And the time it takes to grow that- the hard work of tending your space day in and out, is the true growth of life.

This is about more than cleaning—it’s about cultivating a home you feel good in.
Here’s to soft beginnings, slow mornings, and kitchens that work with us, not against us.
