The Home Reset Challenge Week 5: The Bathroom

Ugh- are you ready for this one?! I'm not sure i'm ready. My bathroom is DEFINITELY ready, whether I like it or not. Another hard truth (whether I like it or not)? When the bathroom is tidy, the day goes so much better! Let's dive in to our Home Reset Challenge for this week:

Weekly Habit: Sparkly Teeth, Sparkly Counters

I'm all for habit stacking. If you are like me and struggle with executive function, sometimes doing two things at once can kick your brain into gear. Combining tedious tasks like clearing my bathroom counter while I brush my teeth for some reason makes me feel like i'm hacking the system. Look at me, i'm a next level functioner!

The other "thing" about homemaking habits that I speak to a lot in The Home Reset is finding cues that work for you. A cue in this sense is something that triggers an automatic habitual response. If you use your clean, sparkly teeth at the end of the night as a cue it's time to make your countertop equally sparkly, pretty soon it'll be automatic.

Simple System: Drawer Storage

Optimizing your drawer organization can be a game-changer for keeping your bathroom functional and clutter-free. When everything has a place to go and is easily "findable", keepign a tidy space and maintaing other healthy habits (like oral hygiene, skin care, etc.). becomes easier too.

In The Home Reset I give some practical ideas to streamline your bathroom drawer organization as well as some outside the box ideas for organizing, like categorizing bathroom products by when you use them (i.e., morning skin routine together) instead of by type.

Here are some useful ideas for systems:

  • Dividers: Use small bins or drawer dividers to group items by category—like skincare, haircare, and dental care.

  • Clear Containers: See-through containers make it easy to spot what you need without rummaging.

  • Labeling: Add labels to ensure everything has a designated spot and stays organized.

Bonus: A functional drawer system will make your nightly counter-clear habit quick and easy.

Declutter Challenge: Drawers

One thing that will REALLY help your habits and systems stick is not having things you don't want, use, or need taking up precious space. Because the thing is- they don't just take up space, they take up time. And life shouldn't be wasted cleaning up stuff all the time. This week, dedicate 15-20 minutes to decluttering your bathroom drawers:

  1. Empty Each Drawer: Take everything out so you can see what you have.

  2. Sort and Purge: Toss expired products and donate or discard items you don’t use.

  3. Group Similar Items: Organize items into categories and keep only what you need.

  4. Reorganize: Use your new drawer storage system to put everything back neatly.

Recap of This Week’s Focus:

  • Habit: Clear your bathroom counter every night.

  • System: Set up an organized drawer storage system.

  • Declutter: Tidy and organize your bathroom drawers.
